Three-Minute Interview: Zach

Written by Giedre on 03rd December 2018

It is our people that make AbBaltis what it is. In this ongoing series, we spend a few minutes getting to know the people that together make AbBaltis. First up is our Business Administrator Zach.

What were you doing before you joined AbBaltis?

I have always been interested in Forensic Science and I enrolled at Canterbury College where I finished a Level 3 Diploma in Science. I had initially wanted to join the Police Force but unfortunately undertaking the necessary full time course would not have been feasible, as I needed to be able to earn whilst I was learning. I then came across the vacancy here at AbBaltis and the rest is history!

What has been your journey here at AbBaltis?

I joined the team in July 2017 as a Business Administration Apprentice. I completed that apprenticeship within a year and was invited to join the team full-time as a Business and Sales Administrator. I’m now hoping to undertake another apprenticeship, this time in Team Leadership, as I really want to be able to develop my management skills so that I am able to mentor and manage new starters.

What does your job entail?

I’m responsible for looking after our customers, which can include anything from speaking to new customers over the phone to get an understanding of what it is they’re looking for, through to sending offers out. I am now working closely with Megan, our new apprentice to train her in this area of the business. Ultimately, I am involved at all stages of the sales process, from initial enquiry all the way through to shipping products.

What do you like about working here?

I love how specialised what we do is – before I came to work here I’d never even heard of a business that tested for diseases! I do think that the work we do here is valuable and that we are putting something positive into the world. What we do can end up saving lives, which is a surreal feeling but it makes me proud to work here.

Finally, tell us a “fun fact” about yourself

In my spare time I run my own YouTube channel, where I post about cars and horses. The cars are of particular interest to me as I’m a bit of a petrol head; and the horses come from my girlfriend!
