Looking Back on 2019

Written by Giedre on 13th December 2019

As 2019 draws to a close and we turn the corner to start 2020, I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on what a wonderful year we have had here at AbBaltis.

2019 was transformative for our business in a number of ways, not least of which being that we moved (and are now happily settled) into our new premises. Our new site has doubled the amount of office and laboratory space that we have and is giving us plenty of room to grow as a business.

Speaking of growth, that leads me on to the team. I am so proud of everyone here at AbBaltis, who has embraced our relocation with open arms. The team have been the reason that we have had such a successful year and it has been my pleasure to watch them all on their journeys. I wanted to make particular mention of Zach, who started here as our apprentice in 2017 and has recently been promoted to Sales Account Manager; and Natalie who has worked tirelessly running our Shipping Laboratory and has been promoted to Supply Chain Manager. Both of these promotions were incredibly well deserved. I also wanted to mention Vanessa, who has successfully completed the first year of our Graduate Scheme and has already made a phenomenal start into the second year.

We’ve had some new faces join the team this year: Ocean, Alison and Claudia. We’ve also welcomed back Claire from maternity leave. Claire, Alison and Claudia are all working on a part-time basis, and I will continue to champion part-time workers as we recruit for new roles in 2020. It is clear to me that in today’s society, a Monday-to-Friday, nine-to-five job just doesn’t suit everyone. Some people have family commitments or wish to work around their studies. Being flexible about when my team works has meant I have wonderful people working for me that just wouldn’t be able to be part of the team on a full-time basis. The feedback that we have had from the team has also been very positive, with people saying that it has given them a better work-life balance. If you are interested in joining the team, you can view some of our current vacancies here.

We have also had a wonderful end to the year after receiving recognition from several awards organisations. We were winners of both the Innovation Award and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the Independent Business Awards Kent in early October; and then in mid-October we picked up the Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the Swale Business Awards. We were also shortlisted as finalists in both the Innovation and Exporting categories at the Made in the South East Awards in November. These awards are incredibly valuable to us as an organisation, as they highlight that we’re swiftly becoming recognised as one of the most prominent businesses in our region.  It is really important to me to acknowledge that AbBaltis would not be winning any awards were it not for the exceptional work being done by our team. A business is only as good as the people in it, and I know that the AbBaltis team is filled with people who are committed to making this company the best it can possibly be, and driving us to constantly improve. I thank them for their continued support, and I know that we would not be in the position we are in now were it not for them.

Finally, a word on our new E-commerce site, which makes placing smaller orders much more simple for customers. We will be refreshing the site in the New Year to allow you to request free samples and also to expand the products available to order through there. Please keep visiting the site to see new products as they become available.

2020 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for AbBaltis, and we have major plans for diversifying into new areas and making a lot more samples available. Please keep checking our website and follow us Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for more updates. You’ll also be able to keep track of Abe’s Exciting Adventures!
