Well, what a fabulous year we’ve had! It felt like it absolutely flew by in a blur, but as I sat down to write this recap of the year I realised just how much has happened for AbBaltis this year. I guess the old adage is true: time flies when you’re having fun.
In terms of the business itself, it has been an absolutely phenomenal year for us. We saw an outstanding 60% increase in sales and we have been dramatically expanding our reach in North America and China. We have also begun exporting to Japan and continue to develop our already significant presence in Europe.
As for our product range, we’ve been very successful in the expansion of our Allergy range, which now covers a huge variety of allergies including shrimp and dust mites, to much more rare types such as olive pollen. We’ve also invested heavily in R&D, including inviting Mark (a former Novartis scientist) to join our team.
In terms of external successes, I was very pleased that we were once again shortlisted in the 2018 Swale Business Awards, which highlights thriving local Kent businesses. We were also finalists for two awards (SME Business Leader of the Year and Female Business Leader of the Year) at the prestigious Telegraph Trade Awards. These accolades highlight that organisations outside of our sector are taking notice of the great work that we are doing.
I’ve always felt that a business was about people rather than numbers, and due to our significant growth I am delighted that we have welcomed a number of new starters to our team, taking us up to twelve members of staff. This included our apprentice who completed his apprenticeship and joined us full time. This year we also introduced the AbBaltis Graduate Scheme, which endeavours to make sure university leavers gain the practical skills that they need to succeed in our industry. I am incredibly grateful to my fantastic team for all of their hard work this year in helping to get us to where we are today.
Finally, and most importantly, I would like to say a huge thank you to our customers for your ongoing support. I am delighted that so many of you keep returning to us and I hope that you find our collaborative approach beneficial to your business. I am committed to investing more and more into our team so that we can offer you materials as well as advice and information. We’ve certainly had consistent feedback that our level of customer service separates us from our competitors and I am unwavering in my pledge that this will always be the case for AbBaltis.
