AbBaltis celebrates 10 years in business

Written by Giedre on 28th October 2020

AbBaltis are delighted to have celebrated 10 years in business on 29th September 2020.

Over the last year AbBaltis has expanded its facilities - moving to a new lab and office space which doubled our work area - as well as growing the team significantly.  We now have an excellent team of 15 staff and are looking to grow our team even further.

Managing Director, Giedre Brandao said "2020 has been a challenging but interesting year and I never could have imagined we would be celebrating this milestone during a pandemic.  As internatioal exporters we initially saw a significant drop in orders from certain countries.  Hhowever, we started receiving requests for various samples to help ensure that the COVID-19 tests scientists were developing were accurate.  By doing a lot of R&D we were able to develop performance panels to evaluate new COVID-19 diagnostic test kits.  In fact, despite the challenges of 2020, our year on year sales have increased by 8.5%.

On a practical level our staff have adapted extremely well to changes in their way of working.  Even before the official lockdown guidelines were announced we had already implemented remote working for some of our staff.  This meant we were able to troubleshoot any problems that arose from online working at a small scale before moving all office based staff members to remote working. Working online also hasn’t hindered our ability to recruit and train new staff which we have successfully done during the last 6 months.

We still have a number of plans for further growth, looking to expand the products we can offer our customers, as well as finding new areas into which to export our material.

We continue to support local schools and universities, an opportunity we are proud of as we love to promote the scientific industry to school and university leavers.  We hosted two interns over the summer of 2020 and are delighted that one of them applied for and accepted a permanent role with the company at the end of her internship.”

Giedre continued “Now it’s time to look ahead to the next 10 years where we will be keeping a close eye on future developments, emerging diseases and expected new health challenges which, with our flexible attitude, will put us at the forefront of developing solutions to make people’s lives across the globe better.  There is a need for faster and more accessible testing which has been highlighted by the recent crisis so novel diagnostic techniques are required.  With our vast experience we are sure we will become an extremely important player over the next 10 years.

I would like to thank all of our customers, the local business community and our excellent team of staff for their ongoing support and look forward to the next 10 years.”
