AbBaltis Offer Opportunities Over The Summer

Written by Giedre on 19th August 2019

It’s an extremely busy summer for us here at AbBaltis, as we continue to offer opportunities for local students to gain valuable laboratory experience here with us.

Firstly we have Georgia (pictured), who is working with us until the end of September as a Laboratory Assistant, when she will return to the University of Southampton to complete the final year of her Biology degree. Georgia secured the job here after undertaking a week’s work experience with us.

“Having real world laboratory experience is invaluable to me,” Georgia explained. “I will be completing my degree next year and one of the key things that employers are looking for is actual experience working in a lab – not just studying in one. I am confident that the work I am doing here at AbBaltis will set me apart from my peers when I start looking for a full-time job.”

Giving the next generation of scientists the opportunities to gain this experience is a key tenet of our philosophy here at AbBaltis. We are determined to empower scientists that are leaving education to be able to succeed in the real world of science; as well as trying to inspire younger students to seek out science as a career path.

Another facet of this approach is that we have been offering a number of short-term work experience placements over the summer. In total nine students have spent some time with us, learning what working in a laboratory environment is actually like, as well as bolstering their CVs for when they begin searching for work in their chosen fields.

One such student was Adina, who spent six days with us before retuning to the University of Kent to complete an MSc in Infectious Diseases. She spoke about why she was so grateful for the chance to work with us: “It is helpful to get a feeling for what the working world is actually like, as that gives me more things to consider when looking for a job. It also helps me to understand what expectations will be from employers when I complete my studies. The work here at AbBaltis is great for my CV as it’s a wonderful way for employers to see that I know how to conduct myself in a working lab. Overall, I very much enjoyed my time here, it is very different from university but in a good way.”

AbBaltis continue to offer work experience opportunities throughout the year. If you are interested, please send your CV to HR@abbaltis.com
